Zoey 101 actress Alexa Nikolas protested against the alleged abusive practices of Nickelodeon executives outside of network’s headquarters in Burbank on Thursday.

Speaking to TMZ, the 30-year-old star explained why she and other protestors chose to demonstrate and why she felt the alleged abuse needed to be addressed.

When asked about why she chose to protest, Nikolas said that she wants to ‘make Nick safe for kids because in my personal experience working on Zoey 101, [I] didn’t feel safe.’ 

The protest comes just a few weeks after former Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy published her memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, in which she claimed to have been mistreated during her time at Nickelodeon.

DailyMail.com has reached out Nickelodeon for comment.

The actress, who organized the protest alongside her group Eat Predators, claimed she was one of many performers who allegedly experienced mistreatment during their time with Nickelodeon.

‘After hearing so many different stories from different Nick stars it just feels like enough is enough,’ she said. 

Nikolas told the outlet that she felt as if Nickelodeon’s executives had the ability to address the allegations, adding: ‘I think anyone is redeemable if they actually do the right things moving forward, but they haven’t even given a comment.’

The Walking Dead actress then made a reference to McCurdy’s recently-released memoir, stating that ‘Jennette and all of us deserve an apology.’

The performer said that Nickelodeon’s executives could rectify the situation if they were able to ‘take accountability’ for the alleged abuses they inflicted on their child performers.

‘I want them to apologize to all the Nick stars who suffered in any type of way…I would like them to take accountability and say they’re sorry.’

Nikolas believes that she and other Nickelodeon stars who were negatively affected by the alleged abuse ‘shouldn’t have to beg for that in any way.’

The performer made a point of noting that she was personally invested in the day’s protest.

‘It felt like if I didn’t come here that I was really overstepping a huge part of my own trauma,’ she said.

Nikolas alleged to TMZ that during her time at Nickelodeon, she was pressured into underage drinking and even claimed to have received unwanted messages from an executive in addition to being offered money in exchange for her silence.

She is also campaigning for the network to stop making its stars sign non-disclosure agreements in the future.

The performer made a point of stating that there was ‘no chance’ of repairing her relationship with her former co-star, Jamie Lynn Spears, and expressed that she was ‘trying to move on’ from her days with the network.
